That’s My Girl!

My daughter is finishing her senior year in high school with an art show next week, featuring this painting, which she has just completed for her oil painting class.

Surrealism is not dead, nor does it sleep.

I am right proud.

Marie Louise Bistro

Last summer we worked on this new restaurant in Mt. Vernon, and I finally got back there last week to take some photos. I was pleased to see it currently featured in this month’s Style Magazine. Marie Louise Bistro was work that we did for Marcy Sagel at Kitchen By Design in Canton. Marcy is great to work with and allows us a lot of creative flexibility within her tailored parameters. In this case she gave me a textured finish she liked, and we scaled it up to fit the two story space and adjusted the colors to suit the fieldstone wainscoting. This is another cementitious texture finish, which I really like working with. The material is cheap, organic and dries to a hard and durable finish.

We also applied an antiqued crackle finish to the barfront panels. The carpenter was behind schedule, and not to be found, so I offered to tap into our modest construction skills to finish the panelling, rebuild the cashier’s counter front, and bring the project to a close. It was really nice to get a chance to demonstrate our full service approach – build-it, paint it and decorate it. Just like the old scene shop days.

Word on the street is that the previous blog photos are too hefty for internet use, and I should find a better way to provide them smaller. I am trying to figure out how to do that, and I hope this works better. Once I have a strategy, will go back and smallerize the previous pictures.
